![]() The result, among other revelations, showed that Professional Development (F(2,63) = 6.62, p<0.05) has a statistical significant effect on the academic achievement of students in Business Studies. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. Two instruments Lesson Observation Rating Scale (LORS r=0.79) and Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT r=0.85) were used. It made use of stratified random sampling to select thirty (30) JSS teachers and 250 JSS2 students from six schools in Epe Local Government of Lagos State. This study adopted quasi-experimental design using the pre and post-test experimental approach. It further examined the moderating effects of gender of the students and their school location on the treatments as it affects the academic achievements. In line with the policy statement above, Professional Development otherwise referred to as in-service training becomes mandatory for all teachers irrespective of the subject they teach.This study is therefore concerned with improving teachers' effectiveness through professional development, as an intervention,to examine its effect on students' achievements in Business Studies. In order to ensure that teachers are well trained before certification, efforts are being made by teacher training institutions as well as the government to provide and monitor quality instructional delivery during teachers' training National Policy on Education (2014) states that regular in-service training is one of the things that make a professional become conversant with new development in his chosen career and become versatile in best practices all over the world. ![]() The axiom which states that no education system can develop beyond the level of its teachers is relevant. One of the many factors that contribute to the performances status being experienced is the effectiveness of the teachers of the subject. It is a school subject and also a very foundational subject that introduces students to the art of entrepreneurship Students' performance in Business Studies has continued to attract the attention of parents, teachers, education planners as well as researchers based on the general economic importance of the subject. Business Studies is one of the important subjects in the Nigerian school curriculum. ![]()
